🔹Farmers from Belgium's 🇧🇪 northern region of Flanders drove thousands of tractors into Brussels today, March 3rd, in a protest against a new regional government plan to limit nitrogen emissions. Police estimated the number of tractors 🚜 clogging the streets of Brussels at 2,700. Many were decorated with big signs reflecting the farmers' anger.

🔹Agricultural organisations said in a joint statement that the nitrogen agreement as it now stands "will cause a socio-economic carnage". The planned move to limit emissions in Flanders has caused a crisis within the Flemish regional gov't that was not resolved during 16 hours of talks earlier this week.

🔹The two most significant barriers remaining to the agreement are the so-called external offsetting - whereby a farmer can (partially) take over the emission rights of another farmer if the latter stops or significantly reduces his livestock 🐄 - and the alignment of standards for agriculture & industry.

🔹For the farms previously on the red list, the mandatory closure date would move up to 2026. If the farms concerned make no effort to turn orange, they must close by 2030. The 🇧🇪 Flemish Agriculture minister outlines a framework linked to €1.6 billion in EU 🇪🇺 subsidies in order to close down farms.

A bit of background about the movie: Rumor has it that Münchhausen was conceived as the Third Reich's answer to "The Wonderful Wizard of Oz". Whether or not that is true, it is quite obvious why the rumor persists: filmed entirely on IG Farben's then-new Agfacolor stock, Münchhausen caused a sensation upon its release – not so much for the sheer fact that it was in color, but for how it used color.

Unlike the first German productions that were using color primarily to achieve a heightened sense of realism, Münchhausen did the opposite and created a phantasmagoric, hyper-real and transcendental dream land.

Well, the EU went ahead and published the text of their "proposal," and it's indecent all right.

What makes it worse is that it's the fourth time in just over a century that such a choice has been put before the Serbs. In July 1914, Austria-Hungary sent Belgrade an ultimatum, intended to be rejected. Serbia accepted all the points save one — but it did them no good, as Vienna was already deploying troops.

In March 1941, Hitler insisted Yugoslavia join the Tripartite Pact. The caretaker government bent the knee, believing the Third Reich was too powerful. The people then overthrew it (some say with British incitement, I say none was needed) and told Hitler to f' off.

The third time, in 1999, Madeleine Albright drafted an unconditional surrender in Rambouillet. Serbia said "no" to the infamous Annex B, which would have put it under NATO's boot.

Each time, what followed was war and death. Yet each time, the Serbs ended up on the winning side. Austria-Hungary perished, the Third Reich too, and NATO had to settle for a UN-authorized occupation of Kosovo without Annex B. It would take subterfuge (a "color revolution" and "regime change") to achieve that goal, and years later. Even now, they desperately need Serbia to agree to its own dismemberment. And all it needs to do to win is just say "no."
