Everyone who has been taught history in school knows the great hardship the war reparations imposed on Germany post-WW1, but not one of Ireland's social historians appears to have knowledge that in the founding years of the Free State (1922-32), the Irish were paying more in Land Annuities and RIC Pensions to the British than the Germans were paying in war reparations.

In 1932, 14% (ยฃ4,764,767) of the total Irish tax income of ยฃ35.5 million was to be paid for both.
