There's a part of the AIB story that isn't being discussed, mainly the sale of the government's stake of 5% to Goldman Sachs and Goodbody Stockbrokers. This happened just over a month ago.
This lines up very conveniently with what is going on right now. We also know that the government knew about the plan to remove cash services to customers. It's only after the recent backlash that this decision ended up being (for now) reversed.
Possible reasons? AIB/their new stakeholders worried about liquidity and trying to keep more cash on hand by shutting down more cash services.
Regardless, there's something missing here. The true reason is not what is being presented to the public. Some BIS push? Who knows?
Because who cares about rural Ireland, right?
