I noticed people asking why we import carrots at all. Tbf seasonality is part of the issue, we could supply fresh carrots for about 3-5 months of the year easily enough, but we ship in the rest of them out of season.

The way people figured out how to store veg year round was incredibly simple: a root cellar.

A properly planned root cellar will remain at 4°c and 100% humidity all year round, making it the absolute ideal place to store, as the name suggests, roots (and tubers).

A fridge isn't great for storing roots as they have very low humidity (to inhibit other bacteria) and is why carrots go floppy, and nobody likes a floppy carrot.

The poormans way that was done in Ireland was to dig a big deep hole, line it with rushes and fill it with spuds, then cover the whole pit with another thick layer of rushes.

It would probably help a lot of people if someone could do up a form letter for parents to send to their school requesting that their children be withdrawn from RSE lessons.


Saggart National School have a section on their website relating to this that might be useful.

Withdrawal of a child from the lessons with sensitive topics

Our RSE programme is inclusive and so we actively discourage withdrawal. Should a parent seek to have their child withdrawn from the RSE lessons, the school will take account of parental concerns, and parents’ right to withdraw their child from themes pertaining to sensitive issues will be honoured on the understanding that the parent is taking full responsibility for this aspect of education themselves. The onus will be on the parent to inform the school in writing of this decision. This letter from the parents will be attached to the child’s enrolment form from January 2017 onwards. If a child is withdrawn from the lesson, the school cannot guarantee that other children will not inform the child in question of the content of the lessons or that the children in the class may not refer incidentally in class to aspects of the lesson during subsequent days/weeks.

The problem of housing and homelessness in this country is completely manufactured by our Gov't. They want enough people angry, and desperate, so that they will accept the political solution. And be under no illusion, that solution is Communism. It is State ownership of Private Property for the Common Good. And make no mistake, normal people will be fooled into voting for it, for both sympathetic, and selfish reasons. And when the rich and wealthy have been bled dry, guess who's next?
