There is no word for yes in the Irish language. There is no word for no either. This is not a gap or a failing. It is a whole way of thinking about the world.
Ask a question in Irish and the answer comes back as the verb you used, either affirmed or negated. Ask an bhfuil tu tuirseach, are you tired, and the reply is taim, I am, or nilim, I am not. Ask ar cheannaigh tu e, did you buy it, and you get cheannaigh, bought, or nior cheannaigh, did not buy. The reply does not float free of the question. It reaches back and repeats it.
This habit crossed over into English when Irish people began speaking it, and it never quite left. It is why an Irish person will still answer a question with I did, I am, I will, sure I might, rather than a flat yes. Hiberno English is full of these ghosts, structures that belong to Irish grammar wearing English words. The old language is still shaping the way Ireland talks, even in the mouths of people who never learned a word of it.

If any of you were wondering how 100,000 shirtless people with zero supplies can just "appear" at a border and flood across it in a matter of hours, here's the explanation.
As I said the moment it happened, there's nothing organic about this. The vast majority of these parasites couldn't even make it to a border without outside (mostly jewish) organization and assistance.
