During the 1900s, the Government of Sweden deemed it as an โunnecessary languageโ and deliberately oppressed it, not caring about preserving the history and culture of itโs people. The Government have neither granted it the recognition and status of a Minority Language and thus do nothing to preserve it. But at the same time they have granted foreign languages such as the jewish jiddisch and the gypsy romani, the status of Minority Languages.
