OSCE Announces Urgent Session
The Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) will hold an urgent session Monday as Ukraine tensions escalate further.
The OSCE monitors keep track of ceasefire violations along the line separating the Ukrainian Army and the two breakaway regions’ forces, where last week shelling has intensified, with both sides blaming each other.
The urgent OCSE session comes on the same day as a phone call between President Putin and Chancellor Scholz was confirmed by Berlin and Russia’s FM Sergey Lavrov will speak with his French counterpart Jean-Yves Le Drian.

Gold prices hit their highest level in over eight months as investors rushed to the precious metal as a safe haven amid escalating tensions in Ukraine.
The price of gold hit $1,979 per ounce late last week climbing to its highest level since June 11, 2021, according to official figures.
“Investors are looking for a geopolitical hedge,” top investment strategist at John Hancock Investment Management told the Wall Street Journal. “The stars are aligning in essence for a gold breakout.”

The dep. head of Russia's presidential admin told President Putin that Ukraine and its Western allies don't need the breakaway regions of Donetsk and Lugansk.
Dmitry Kozak added that the Normandy Format process and Minsk agreements have had "zero" results - despite last minute negotiations.
Kozak added they want changes to the 2015 format, that contradict the previous agreement. "They don't want to bring Donbass back to Ukraine."

President Putin spoke to French counterpart Emmanuel Macron until 2am yesterday, who revealed there had been changes in the American position over Ukraine’s NATO admission - but apparently wouldn’t reveal what the changes were.
President Biden had told Putin that a moratorium was possible on Ukraine's accession to NATO, even though Putin noted this was not a concession.
FM Sergey Lavrov added that Russia will seek an answer from the West to the main question about the non-expansion of NATO to the east at the Russian Security Council meeting.
