There is a real opportunity here to influence the final text of The Police, Crime, Sentencing Bill. The fact that the Home Secretary has clearly been told she cannot rush it through as she'd planned is indicative of the Government's determination that it should pass, but that she is not trusted to do so her way. This provides an opportunity to ensure that some of its more draconian measures are removed or at the very least watered down.

As the bill will clearly now be passed in one form or another it would be helpful if the slogan "Kill the Bill" and its overt call for violence against police officers was dropped.

Every member of this group is encouraged to submit their own personal evidence to the Committee and if anyone is willing to step up and co-ordinate a submission from this group that would be enormously helpful.

From early 2020 until lockdown a group of us maintained a presence at the Palace of Westminster to protest against successive governments' inaction on the climate catastrophe and ecological disaster. We resumed in September and were locked down again later in the year. We now hope to start again and to continue to do so until at least November 2021 when COP26 is due to take place in Glasgow.
