دانستنی های جالب و شگفت انگیز در انگلیسی

-اگر live را برعکس بنویسم، می‌شود evil.

-در کلمه listen به معنای گوش دادن همان حروفی به کار رفته که در silent به معنای سکوت بکار رفته است. تصادف قشنگی‌ نیست!

-لغت کاراته 'karate" یعنی «دست خالی».

-کلمه set بیشتر از هر کلمه دیگری در زبان انگلیسی دارای معنا و تعریف است.

-تا به حال به تلفظ لغت "queue" دقت کرده‌اید. اگر چهار حرف آخر آنرا برداریم باز هم به همان طریق تلفظ می‌شود.

-اسکیموها برای توصیف کلمه برف، ۲۰ لغت دارند!

-در سال ۱۹۳۹ فردی بنام «ارنست وینسنت رایت» Erneset Vincent Wright کتاب داستانی منتشر کرد بنام« گدسبی» Gadsby که حاوی ۵۰,۱۱۰ لغت بود و در هیچ یک از این لغات از حرف e استفاده نشده بود. این کار نوعی بازی با حروف است و معمولا حرفی از حروف الفبا را در اثری بکار نمی‌برند. در انگلیسی این حرف بیشتر e و در زبان فارسی بیشتر الف را حذف می‌کنند. اسم این نوع نگارش را نیز اصطلاحا Lipogram می‌گویند.

-طولانی‌ترین کلمه‌ای که با حروف ردیف بالای کیبورد می‌توان نوشت کلمه TYPEWRITER است.

-به نقطه بالای حرف i می‌گوییم کوچولو یا a tittle

-سخت‌ترین زبان برای یادگیری، زبان Basque است که در شمال غرب اسپانیا و جنوب غربی فرانسه صحبت می‌شود.

-از سال ۱۸۸۰ دیکشنری آکسفورد کلمه طولانی floccinaucinihilipilification را در لیست کلمات خود جا داد که تقریبا به این معناست: " حدس زدن این که چیزی بی‌ارزش است."
.-کلمه‌ای که ۱۵ حرف از حروف زبان انگلیسی را بدون اینکه تکرار شوند در خود جا داده است کلمه uncopyrightable است.

حروف انگلیسی A,B,C,D در املای انگلیسی هیچ یک از اعداد ۱ تا ۹۹ دیده نمی شود !!!!!

حرف D برای اولین بار در عدد ۱۰۰ بکار می رود یعنی Hundred
