President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s security service said Monday, it foiled a coup that would have “played into Russia’s hands” as his Ukrainian forces battled their Russian counterparts in the east of the country.

News of the plot emerged ahead of the visit of one of Russian President Vladimir Putin’s only European allies, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán, to Kyiv on Tuesday for talks with Zelenskyy.

Referencing the presidency in a news conference after meeting with Zelenskyy, Orbán said he chose Kyiv for his first visit “because peace is an important question” and the war was impacting European security, according to the translation of his comments posted to the Ukrainian president's official Telegram account.

He also vowed to resolve “all previous disputes” with Ukraine, and “focus on the future.”

An attorney for former President Trump suggested that the so-called “fake electors” scheme qualifies as an “official act,” which would prevent it from being prosecuted under the recent Supreme Court ruling on presidential immunity.

Trump attorney Will Scharf told CNN Monday night that some acts alleged in the former president’s federal election subversion indictment do constitute private conduct but the effort to put forth slates of alternate electors in 2020 from key battleground states is not one of them.

The Trump campaign is demanding an apology from the White House and President Biden's campaign for dismissing videos of Biden's public gaffes and miscues as "cheap fakes" and "misinformation" promoted by conservatives.

"It’s only been a week since our fantastic team @TrumpWarRoom & @RNCResearch were wrongly accused of editing ‘cheap fakes’ to make Biden look bad," Trump campaign national press secretary Karoline Leavitt posted on X Friday. "The Democrats, and of course their mouthpieces in the Fake News, peddled this ridiculous lie."

"We actually had to spend time fighting ‘journalists’ on this ridiculous narrative and telling them Americans can believe their own eyes!" she continued. "Now everyone sees there’s NOTHING fake about Biden’s decline. We were right and simply sharing the TRUTH!"

"We will take an apology now," Leavitt added, tagging the Biden campaign and a handful of media outlets.

The U.S. government has awarded $176 million to Moderna (MRNA.O), opens new tab to advance development of its bird flu vaccine, the company said on Tuesday, as concerns rise over a multi-state outbreak of H5N1 virus in dairy cows and infections of three dairy workers since March.

Shares of the Cambridge, Massachusetts-based company rose more than 2% to $118.32 in early trade.

The funds from the U.S. Biomedical Advanced Research and Development Authority will be used to complete late-stage development and testing of a pre-pandemic mRNA-based vaccine against H5N1 avian influenza, the company said in a statement.

Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin said Tuesday that the U.S. will soon announce an additional $2.3 billion in security assistance for Ukraine, to include anti-tank weapons, interceptors and munitions for Patriot and other air defense systems.

The announcement came as Ukrainian Defense Minister Rustem Umerov met with Austin at the Pentagon. And it marks a strong response to pleas from Kyiv for help in battling Russian forces in the Donetsk region.

The Manhattan district attorney’s office said Tuesday it would not oppose former President Donald Trump’s request to file a motion arguing that his conviction should be tossed, a move that will almost certainly delay Trump’s sentencing, which is currently set for July 11.

“Although we believe defendant's arguments to be without merit, we do not oppose his request for leave to file and his putative request to adjourn sentencing pending determination of his motion,” assistant district attorney Josh Steinglass wrote in a letter to Judge Juan Merchan.
