That feeling you get when you watch your favorite YouTubers, like you've known them for a while and you know a lot about their life and their personality, but you've never met in person, and they have no idea you exist.
This is called a "parasocial relationship" and it's responsible for some of the issues we see today (mostly in the youth) with social structure breakdown and loss of social skills. You are tricked into believing you are part of a large group with the YouTube personality, and all their fans, and this relationship requires nothing from you. It's like porn but for friendships. Then when you get out into the real world, and suddenly social interaction is a requirement, and you can't get what you want out of it for free, your brain starts sputtering and stressing out.
Now, if for the sake of argument, we say that this phenomena was intentional, then it would be clear that those in power are not just content to control your lives, take your wages, and feed you lies to keep you dumb. They are also (in this scenario) guilty of attempting to make you incapable of socializing and networking effectively with each other. In doing so, they are causing you to retreat ever further into yourself, and away from your fellow man, because they don't want you to ever stand a chance of overthrowing them.
Allegedly, of course. 😎
