THE US TREASURY JUST CREATED A QUANTUM TASK FORCE.
On August 24, Treasury launched the Quantum Readiness Task Force. Its job is to move the entire American financial system off encryption that a quantum computer will eventually break.
Secretary Bessent's framing, "America must lead in securing the technologies that power our economy."
They'll focus on these three areas:
Sector alignment and the migration itself, coordinating banks, clearinghouses, and payment networks onto post-quantum cryptography.
Third-party and vendor readiness, because a bank is only as quantum-safe as its weakest software supplier.
And the one that should wake up crypto. A dedicated Digital Assets and Emerging Technology Risk workstream. Bitcoin and every digital asset now sit inside a federal quantum-risk framework. The signatures securing crypto wallets are exactly the kind a big quantum machine breaks first.
This task force exists because of Executive Order 14412, signed in June: "Securing the Nation Against Advanced Cryptographic Attacks." That order set hard federal deadlines, quantum resistant key establishment by end of 2030, digital signatures by end of 2031, years ahead of the G7's soft 2035 target.

π‘However, the President can still push meaningful crypto clarity through the #SEC, #CFTC, Treasury and executive actions. That can give the market clearer rules around securities, commodities, enforcement and how crypto businesses operate.

β CLARITY Act = becomes federal law, making the framework far more durable and difficult to reverse.
