Aerial photographs show that yesterday’s protest in Melbourne was larger than anti-Vietnam war protests of 1971.

If you look at aerial photos from June 1971, you can see the crowd along Spring St ended well before the end of Parliament House, and not even past the entrance of The Hotel Windsor.

In comparison, photo’s from yesterday show the crowd packed all along the front of The Windsor Hotel and spilling around the corner into Little Collins St. (And that’s in addition to main body of the crowd down Bourke St.

Yet while the crowds from 1971 are written in history books as having been between 50,000 to 100,000 - the MS Media described yesterday’s crowd as ‘’more than a 1000’’.
