Few weeks ago, I offered training to those who needed Virtual Assistant Training/Certification/Mentorship (PART 7).

All they had to do was cover for the cost of their Certificates.

The training is now concluded and I am happy to ANNOUNCE it was a huge success 🎉

First Things to Do Before Becoming a Virtual Assistant

1. Understand the VA Role

Research what virtual assistants do (general admin, social media, customer service, etc.).

Decide whether you want to be a general VA or specialized VA.

2. Get Proper Training

Enroll in a VA training course (online or local) to learn the basics.

Training gives you:

Knowledge of tools (Trello, Asana, Google Workspace, Canva, Slack, etc.).

Confidence to handle clients.

A certificate (sometimes) to boost credibility.

Even if you’re skilled, structured training helps you understand industry standards.

3. Assess & Build Your Skills

List the skills you already have.

Identify gaps and upgrade (e.g., social media management, email handling, or bookkeeping).

Practice by doing mock projects to prepare for real clients.

4. Set Up Your Tools

Reliable computer/laptop.

Fast internet connection.

Headset/microphone for calls.

Basic apps (Zoom, Google Drive, Notion, etc.).
3
5. Choose Your Services

Pick 3–5 services you can confidently offer.

Examples: Email management, customer support, research, content scheduling.

6. Decide Your Rates

Research what beginner VAs earn.

Choose your pricing method: hourly, weekly, or per project.

7. Create a Simple Portfolio

Show your skills with sample work (mock emails, sample social media posts, data entry).

8. Set Up Your Online Presence

Create a professional email.

Optimize your LinkedIn & Facebook profiles.

Join freelancing platforms (Upwork, Fiverr, OnlineJobs).

9. Learn How to Pitch Yourself

Practice writing proposals that highlight how you can solve the client’s problem.

Keep your introduction short and professional.

10. Network & Join Communities

Join VA groups on Facebook, LinkedIn, or WhatsApp.

Connect with other freelancers for referrals and tips.

11. Adopt the Right Mindset

Treat it as a business, not just a hustle.

Be ready to learn, adapt, and stay consistent.
