Athens: Medical staff go on strike against compulsory vaccination
Workers in public hospitals in Greece stopped work for five hours Thursday to protest a government decision to require vaccination against COVID-19 for all employees in the public and private health sectors.

About 300 hospital workers gathered in front of the Ministry of Health in Athens to protest the measure, which is scheduled to take effect Sept. 1.

The government has made it clear that there will be no extension of the deadline beyond Sept. 1.

The requirement wouldn’t apply to places where food is served exclusively for takeout or curbside pickup, according to the proposal.

The proposal also would allow employers to require their employees to show proof of vaccination as a condition of employment, or to submit weekly COVID-19 test results as an alternative.
