Umbilical hernia(ุงู„ูุชู‚ ุงู„ุณุฑูŠ)

Animal spp.: calf
3 month of age
Sex: female

๐Ÿค’C.S:
from 3 days the animal suffering from swelling at the umbilical area.

๐Ÿค’D.x:
by palpation manually the examination show there is;
hernial sac, hernial content and hernial ring.

๐Ÿค’Rx:
- pre operation; fasting the animal from feed and water at least 24hrs, clipping and shaving the umbilical area.
Washing by water and soap.
Use povidon iodin.
And useing local anasthesia(Ledocain) at the base of hernial sac like a ring.

๐Ÿค’-during operation:
1๐ŸŒบ-make incision  in the midline (open the skin, sabcutaneous and peritoneum) .

2- ๐ŸŒบreturn the hernial content to the abdominal cavity.

3-๐ŸŒบ remove of the excessive skin.

4- ๐ŸŒบsuturing the peritoneum by using absorbable suture material (polyglycolic suture) simple continuous pattern.

5- ๐ŸŒบand finally suturing the subcut . & skin by non absorbable suture material(silk suture) simple interrupted pattern.

๐Ÿค’- post operative care:

1-๐ŸŒบgive the animal 2.5cc of p.s i.m and for 3 days after operation

2- ๐ŸŒบuse Oxy-spray to prevent contamination occur in the wound.

3- ๐ŸŒบafter 10 days should be remove the non absorbable suture material from the skin.

Ringworm

โŽ Synonyms:
Ringworm, Dermatomycosis, Dermatophytosis, Trichophytosis.

โŽ Definition:
A superficial fungal disease which is caused by invasion of keratinized
epithelial cells and hair fibers by dermatophytes. It is characterized clinically by circular scaly areas of alopecia with or without crust formation.

โŽ Etiology:

A. The causative agents are fungi which grow on the hair or skin or both.

B. ln cattle, Trichophyton verrucosum. Tr. mentagrophytes, Tr. megnini. Tr. equinum.

C. In horses, Tr. equinum, Tr. quinckeanum, Tr. mentagrophytes, Tr. veruoosum

Microsporum equinum and M. gypseum.

โŽ Clinical signs:

The lP varies from one to six weeks. The morbidity rate is variable. but may be higher in young animals. The course may extend to 4 months and occasionally longer.
๐Ÿ„๐Ÿ‚ Large ruminants:
Round or oval areas of crusting and alopecia that range from 1-5 cm in diameter are the typical ringworm in calves and they are common in the periocular region. ears. muzzle. neck and trunk In adult ruminants, the lesions may be anywhere on the body. but often appear on the trunk and neck. with a few cases showing the lesions as in the young.

๐Ÿ‘๐ŸSheep and goats:
Crusty wart like lesions on the face and ears accompanied by intense pruritus.

๐ŸŽ๐Ÿด Horses:
The clinical signs usually begin as erythematous. follicular papules that progress to areas of scale. crust and focal alopecia. The lesions are usually non pruritic. As a result of mechanical transmission. lesions are most commonly located near the saddle or tack areas. involvement of the axilla is called girth itch.

โŽ Treatment:

A. Topical treatment: may be effective for limited lesions or selective treatment of a few animals. Crusts should be removed by washing with soda solution. Topical application of the following must be used for 3-4 times daily for 5-10 days:

2% Lugol's iodine. 1% iodophors. or 1-2% tincture of iodine. 2-4% Thiabendazole ointment, once or twice daily.
Dichlorophen, applied daily for 5 days. Miconazole or clotrimazole cream. once or twice daily.

B. Systemic treatment include:

Sodium iodide as a 10% solution 90-100 mg/kg.b.w. slowly i/v every week 2-3 times only. Pregnant cattle should not be treated with iodide therapy.

' Griseofulvin (from penicillin griseofulvum) is effective when given orally, but is too expensive as a rule for large animal use. In cattle 50 mg/kg.b.w. in horse 10 mg/ kg.b.w. in dog 22 mg/kg.b.w. and in sheep and goats 7.5 mg/kg.b.w. all per as daily for 3 weeks. Pregnant animals should not be treated with this preparation.

Vitamin A & D are only indicated if animals have been kept completely out of sunlight.
