📜👨🎨 Venice Art Biennale, one of the world's most famous and important art exhibitions, started this weekend until November 2024.
The #ArtBiennale, a contemporary visual art exhibition, so called because it is held biennially, is the original biennale on which others in the world have been modeled. The Biennale Foundation in Venice supports the arts as well as organizing the following separate #VeniceEvents:
- Art Biennale- International Art Exhibition, Biennally since 1895
- Architecture Biennale - International Architecture Exhibition, Biennally since 1980
- Biennale Musica - International Festival of Contemporary Music, Annually in September/October since 1930
- Biennale Teatro - International Theatre Festival, Annually in July/August since 1934

👩🎨👮 Today the Pope came to Venice. His visit started in the Women Prison on the #Giudecca island where he opened the Holy See Pavillion for the #ArtBiennale.
I rarely go for modern art but this must be really worth visiting... the women prisoners themselves will guide visitors through the Pavillion every day until November.
Access is free but of course there are strict rules to go in because... it's a prison!

📌🥬 May traditionally starts Summer events in Venice.
This is a very local one☝️, totally unknown to tourists!
It takes place in the island of #SantErasmo on the second Sunday of May and celebrates the harvest of the Violet Artichoke ("Carciofo Violetto"), a special perennial herbaceous plant that grows only here in the #Lagoon.
You can only eat this Artichoke here in Venice in various ways (raw, garnished, fried), its early bud is called "castraura" and it's much sought after around town in this season. Delicious 😋

🗾 Few know and visit the island of Sant'Erasmo.
It's the 2nd biggest island in the Lagoon, it's between Venice and #Burano (see in the map bordered in red☝️) and it's totally devoted to farming and fruits and vegetable growing.

🍇🥦 For centuries #SantErasmo served the city of Venice of all the vegetables and fruits it needed. Today you can find products coming from the island in the typical boat markets on the canals or in the central Erbaria market in #Rialto☝️

40 years ago Madonna came to Venice for a couple of days to film the videoclip of her upcoming single Like A Virgin.
#Madonna was already big in the USA, after this song and video she became the greatest international female superstar⭐️
This is the first music videoclip filmed in Venice: with an initial budget of 150.000$, the production brought a real lion 🦁 in town, that can be seen in the video wandering around the ancient columns of the Doge's Palace.
The presence of the lion was an intentional tribute to Venice and the 👉 Lion of St. Mark.
Main spots in this video are Ca' Zenobio Degli Armeni (indoor shootings), Bridge Of Sighs, Bacino Orseolo, Rialto Mercato and Ca' D'Oro areas, and of course Madonna's Gondola ride through the Canals and Bridges (sometimes with unaware people on top) which is the "main theme" of the video.
Needless to say, this videoclip was also a tremendous spot for the city, in times where globalization, low cost transportations and mass tourism were unknown 🗺
