๐Ÿ“œ25 June 1678. Equal rights... we're all living a historical moment where it looks like there are "more rights than duties" around, mostly coming from "above"... but the meaning of conquest itself, i.e. achieving something, seems to have lost its appeal.
On this day of 1678 Venice became (once more) the first city in the world to witness an absolute conquest!
Elena Lucrezia Cornaro Piscopia (shortened Elena Corner), a noble lady from Venice, became the first woman in the world admitted for an academic degree in Theology ("masked" with another name to avoid an international scandal ๐Ÿ˜ณ, women were not allowed at all on the subject) and the first to receive a Doctorate in Philosophy (from the near glorious University of Padua, needless to say one of the oldest in the world). ๐Ÿ‘
Elena struggled in fact all her life for that, against all prejudices... as she was a woman in the exclusive men's academic world.
When you live in a city of conquests and beauty, you can only long for more! ๐Ÿ’ช๐Ÿป๐Ÿ”ฅ

A lifelong love story โค๏ธ

She was born 100 years ago (#2December 1923) and she's celebrated at #LaFenice Theater.
๐Ÿ‘จโ€๐ŸŽจ๐Ÿ“œ17 September 1510. Giorgione (his portrait on the leftโ˜๏ธ), one of the most mysterious painters of the Italian #Renaissance, passed away of pest in Venice. This is actually the only certain thing we know about #Giorgione.

He was probably born in 1478 in #Castelfranco, Medieval town 30 minutes away from Venice and at the time part of the Venetian Republic.
He moved to Venice very young and entered the Art School of ๐Ÿ‘‰ Giovanni Bellini as a palace decorator, soon joined by ๐Ÿ‘‰ Tiziano.
That's why Bellini and Tiziano are the main witnesses of Giorgione's work, due to the fact that he never signed his paintings.

Today we all can admire Giorgione's most famous paintings in the #AccademiaGalleries in Venice: among them "La Tempesta"โ˜๏ธ, unanimously regarded as one of the most beautiful and important artworks of the Renaissance!
