๐ŸŽผ25 January. Today the City of Florence, #Italy has decided to build and dedicate a statue to Narciso Parigi, one of the most prominent singers of the Italian era of "stornellatori" (1940s -1950s).
#NarcisoParigi passed away in #Florence on 25 January 2020, aged 93. His name will be forever bound to the 2 most beautiful Art Cities, Venice and Florence!
As concerns Venice, Narciso interpreted one of the most known 1900 songs about the city, "Venezia La Luna e Tu" (written in 1939 by A.Derevitsky - L.Martelli).
As concerns Florence he is the singer, among the many songs about his city, of the official hymn of local Fiorentina football team โšฝ๏ธ, "O Fiorentina".

๐Ÿ“œ๐Ÿ“6 February 1515. Italic (corsivo), the font type I'm using now to write this post, a standard way all over the world to emphasise key points in a printed text: the person who invented this font type was of course Italian ๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡น and passed away in Venice on this day of 1515!
His name was Aldo Manuzio (internationally Aldus Manutius), born and raised near Rome where he studied to become one of the first press publisher ever: he moved to Venice invited by the Doge of the time and opened a printing press in Campo Sant'Agostin,
#SanPolo district...

๐ŸŽญ Carnevale di Venezia, the oldest Carnival celebration in the world, starts this weekend!

Some brief facts for you:
- Carnival comes from the Italian word Carnevale and it's the religious period in Christianity which starts after Epiphany and lasts until Ash Wednesday, when Lent (in Italian Quaresima) begins. During Carnevale nutritional "excesses" were allowed and everyone could eat meat (Carne in Italian) and drink wine, as opposed to the Quaresima period (40 days before Easter) which had nutritional restrictions and fasting rules.
- #Carnevale as a folk celebration started in Venice in Medieval times (some historians say in 1162) to celebrate the city's war victories.
- Carnevale became an official celebration in Venice during the #Renaissance, making it a unique symbol and a pride of the city: wearing masks was not allowed anywhere in the world for centuries, even during Carnival time. Only Venice allowed and encouraged masks, as all kinds of licences and pleasures with no social class distinctions. That's why Venice Carnival became so popular and a huge attraction for all other countries.
- #VeniceCarnival was abolished and outlawed by the Austrians when they occupied the city in 1798 and the tradition got lost as years went by.
- After a long absence Venice Carnival returned only in 1979.
