π¨βπ¨31 May 1594. Jacopo Robusti, worldwide known as Tintoretto, passes away in Venice.
One of the most prominent painters of Venice #Renaissance, #Tintoretto was famous for his phenomenal energy in painting which gained him the nickname Il Furioso ("The Furious"). His works are characterised by muscular figures, dramatic gestures and bold use of perspective: his paintings and portraits are held in all most important museums around the world!
In Venice his paintings and frescoes are in the main Palaces, Churches and Museums (Accademia Galleries, La Salute, San Polo, San Cassiano, Ca D'Oro) but 2 places more than others show Tintoretto's fantastic work:
πΈ The stunning Church of Madonna Dell'Orto in Cannaregio where Tintoretto is buried (it's also part of my favorite #WalkingTour !)
πΈ The breathtaking Scuola Grande di San Rocco in San Polo, considered the "Sistine Chapel of Venice", entirely decorated by Tintoretto, like #Michelangelo did for the Cappella Sistina in #Rome.

ππΉHaving hosted hundreds, I perfectly know the one thing every traveler is desperately in search for when in #Italy: living La Dolce Vita for a while... like locals do.
Can you think of any place in the world where you can visit in the morning St. Mark and #Rialto, and later enjoy your lunch in a green island π³ with an amazing view on the Lagoon like #SantElena, and later walk along the seaside on the #Lido beaches... for miles until its end... and later enjoy your Aperitivo at the #Alberoni while waiting for your boat sailing the amazing South Lagoon back to St. Mark, and later enjoy the sunset on your boat along the Grand Canal !!!
Yes, you can actually live La Dolce Vita in Venice... possibly in summertime, possibly with me π

π29 June 965. San Pietro in Volta was born on the island of #Pellestrina, one of the most remote and secluded inhabited places of Venice Lagoon (see mapβοΈ).
One of the main reasons Venice grew and expanded so much in Medieval centuries was to escape the Barbarians frequent invasions.
In 915 the Hungarians, after having devastated the mainland, were defeated by Venetians in Pellestrina island while attempting to assault Venice. πͺ
In memory of the victory, about fifty years later (29 June 965) a Church dedicated to St. Peter was built. The whole place was named San Pietro in Volta, where "in volta" stands for "on the run", with reference to the Hungarian armies escaping. It was the main and last attempt by Barbarians to invade and dominate the island.
After that Venice would be safe and free to become the most important city of the Mediterranean area.
