A difficult day. But this day, like all others, is aimed precisely at saving our country and our people. Regarding the situation in Mariupol. Thanks to the actions of the Ukrainian military - the Armed Forces of Ukraine, intelligence, the negotiating team, the International Committee of the Red Cross and the United Nations, we hope that we will be able to save the lives of our guys. Among them are the seriously wounded, they are being provided with medical aid. I want to emphasize: Ukraine needs Ukrainian heroes alive. This is our principle. I think that every adequate person will understand these words.

Відтоді людство зняло чимало прекрасних кінокартин. Здавалося, що всі вже зрозуміли, що підкорювати людей можна прекрасним, збираючи їх біля екранів, а не потворним, збираючи їх у бомбосховищах.
Здавалося, що всі вже думали, що хоррор у вигляді повномасштабної війни, яка може охопити весь континент, більше не матиме продовження.
Але знову, як і тоді, є диктатор. Знову, як і тоді, є війна за свободу. Знову, як і тоді, потрібно, щоб кіно не було німим.

Продовжую збирати якнайбільшу міжнародну аудиторію для України. Щоб нашу державу підтримували на всіх рівнях. І щоб на всіх рівнях тиснули на Росію.
Інформаційний тиск, дипломатичний, а також культурний. Ось що нам треба. Щоб, як і в часи Другої світової війни, боротьба за свободу могла спиратися зокрема й на силу мистецтва.

Cannes International Film Festival. I recalled the words of the hero played by Chaplin, which sounded from the screens in 1940: “The hate of men will pass, and dictators die, and the power they took from the people will return to the people. And so long as men die, liberty will never perish…”

Since then - since those words of the hero played by Chaplin - mankind has produced many beautiful movies. It seemed that everyone already understood that one can conquer people with the beautiful, gathering them near the screens, and not with the ugly, gathering them in bomb shelters.
It seemed that everyone already believed that the horror in the form of a full-scale war that could cover the entire continent would not have continuation.
But again, as then, there is a dictator. Again, as then, there is a war for freedom. Again, as then, it is necessary for cinematography not to be dumb.

I continue to gather the largest possible international audience for Ukraine. To support our state at all levels. And to put pressure on Russia at all levels.
Information, diplomatic and cultural pressure is what we need. So that, as in the days of World War II, the struggle for freedom can rely in particular on the power of art.

1944-го року, виселяючи кримських татар з їхньої землі, тодішні кати народу були впевнені, що ніхто із переселених не повернеться додому, в Крим.
Зараз, намагаючись окупувати Україну і зруйнувати наше життя, теперішні кати народу також були впевнені, що у них все вийде і що ми нібито не витримаємо.
А ми витримали. І боремось, щоб повернутись в кожний куточок нашого дому. І повертаємось.

Now, trying to occupy Ukraine and destroy our lives, the current torturers of the people were also convinced that everything would work out for them and that we would not be able to endure it.
And we endured. And we are struggling to bring life back to every corner of our home. And we are coming back.
