📰Il consigliere della Casa Bianca Jared Kushner ha esortato i Palestinesi a fare la pace con l'alleanza appena ufficiale tra gli Emirati Arabi Uniti e Israele – la cui leadership si riferisce ai suoi antichi testi religiosi per giustificare la propria presa di terra.

Kushner ha fatto la dichiarazione un po' ironica dopo essere arrivato negli Emirati Arabi Uniti lunedì a bordo di un aereo passeggeri che ha completato il primo volo diretto da Israele. Il percorso è stato ufficialmente stabilito come parte degli accordi di Abraham tra i due paesi e gli Stati Uniti all'inizio di questo mese. La decisione è stata salutata da Washington e dai suoi alleati come "storica", anche se la Palestina e i suoi alleati l'hanno considerata un tradimento dai loro fratelli Arabi di un tempo.

Questo non ha impedito a Kushner di continuare a promuoverlo. Il genero di Donald Trump ha detto ai giornalisti che i palestinesi dovrebbero sapere che la pace sarebbe "pronta per loro... non appena sono pronti ad abbracciarla”, esortando la popolazione occupata ad accettare l'aiuto di “tutta la regione” per ottenere una spinta economica.

Gli Emirati Arabi Uniti hanno difeso la sua decisione di normalizzare le relazioni diplomatiche con Israele sottolineando che l'accordo storico aveva rinviato L'annessione ufficiale di Israele degli insediamenti di soli ebrei che attualmente si trovano nel Territorio palestinese della Cisgiordania. "Gerusalemme non è in vendita," il presidente Mahmoud Abbas ha ricordato gli Stati Uniti.
