The SwaYaan Initiative is a national capacity-building program launched by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) in July 2022 to develop human resources for Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) and drone technologies. 

The initiative aims to train 42,560 participants through a hub-and-spoke model involving 30 premier institutions, including IITs, IISc, NITs, CDAC, and NIELIT. 

 It focuses on five key themes: Drone Electronics, GNC Algorithms Simulation, Aeromechanics, Drone Applications, and Allied UAS Technologies, with an outlay of approximately ₹89.87 crore. 

Key recent developments under SwaYaan include:

⭕️NIDAR Launch: MeitY and the Drone Federation India (DFI) launched the National Innovation Challenge for Drone Application and Research (NIDAR) to foster innovation in disaster management and precision agriculture. 

✅NIDAR 2.0: The second edition, launched in 2026, emphasizes indigenous technology, specifically challenging teams to develop flight controllers using the VEGA microprocessor. 

Impact: The program has already trained over 32,000 beneficiaries and supports India’s vision of becoming a global drone hub by 2030.
