I only target high priority leads. Top of the filter list = lowest priority. Bottom = highest.

Here’s why:

Each applicatn costs real $. Connects are $0.15 each, and most gigs require 12 - 16 connects to apply ( thats without boosting). That’s about $2 per job. Boosting can take it to $3 or even more. bruh..

Now imagine spending that on clients with no hires, 50+ proposals, and no verified payment. You’re not applying, you’re donating money to Upwork investors..

So I filter hard:

- Less than 20 proposals
- Payment verified
- 1–9 or 10+ hires
- Clients in the Americas or Europe

If you’re on Upwork and applying blindly to every job you see, thinking more applications = better results, you’re wasting connects AND time.

Upwork's new feature - instant interviews using AI. A robot will score your interview and now clients can skip the proposals. Your interview will have a rating for the client to see.

That kind of self-centered mindset doesn’t work, not when you’re trying to earn someone’s attention, trust, or business.

Here’s the hard truth: you’re not special.

Well, maybe to your mother. But beyond that? Nobody really cares about your story, your passion, or your skills just for the sake of it.

People care about themselves.
- Their problems.
- Their goals.
- Their deadlines.

If you want them to listen, stop talking about yourself.

Talk about what they need.

Show how you help them.

Make them feel heard, not pitched to.

That’s how real connection happens.

How to avoid scam job posts on “Upwork” so you save connects, energy and start winning better Projects
I know you are tired of these fake job posts on Upwork.

Today, I am giving it to you for free. All I need is your 3 minutes that saves you from scams:

Let’s get started
The scammers:
Post 3-4 jobs but not hired yet.
Same job postings from different accounts
Vague job descriptions with not enough details


Check the client's hiring history:
Do they actually hire?
Do they leave reviews?
What’s their average spend?

Skip non-serious clients by verifying:
Less than $2-3/hour jobs
Payment verification status
Most of the time I applied for US jobs only
Client location (does it match your target markets?)


Focus on relevance so you won’t waste connects:
Only apply to jobs that perfectly match your skills
Don't waste connects on projects requiring expertise you don't have
Be honest about your capabilities


The manual qualification process
Check the client history before applying
Check their average hourly rate paid
What reviews & feedback they are getting from freelancers

Avoid “BIG test tasks” without contracts
Never do full samples or pre-hire work unless you're protected with a contract.
"Simple task for $500" or "No experience needed, just message me". Man! that’s a red flag.


Never respond to jobs asking for contact outside Upwork
Mentions of WhatsApp, Telegram, or email = 99% scam.

Upwork does refund Connects for some declined proposals, but not every time.

So, be selective with your job proposals. This the smartest way to protect your Connects and increase your chances.
