Kenyan runner Abel Mutai was only a few meters from the finish line, but got confused with the signs and stopped, thinking he had finished the race. A Spanish man, Ivan Fernandez, was right behind him and, realizing what was going on, started shouting to the Kenyan to keep running. Mutai did not know Spanish and did not understand.
Realizing what was going on, Fernandez pushed Mutai to victory. A reporter asked Ivan, "Why did you do this?" Ivan replied, "My dream is that one day we can have some sort of community life where we push ourselves and help each other win." The reporter insisted "But why did you let the Kenyan win?" Ivan replied, "I didn't let him win, he was going to win. The race was his."
The reporter insisted and asked again, "But you could have won!" Ivan looked at him and replied: "But what would be the merit of my victory? What would be the honor of this medal? What would my Mother think of it?" The values are transmitted from generation to generation.

Gs2- Women's rights example- Relevant story for Essay and ethics
β Mary Roy was a passionate advocate for womenβs rights and the founder of the Pallikoodam School in Kottayam, Kerala.
On 24 February 1986 Mary won a long-standing legal battle for equal rights over the property of her father, a Syrian Catholic. Up until she challenged the Travancore Act, the following rules were applicable:
π΄A widow who returned to her parental home could enjoy the ancestral property until she died or remarried.
π΄If a man did not leave behind a will specifying a share of his personal property for a daughter, the daughter wouldnβt be entitled to a share of that property.
π΄She would, however, be entitled to one-fourth of the value of the share of the son or Rs 5,000, whichever was less.
Since Maryβs father died without having left behind a will, she approached the courts. Mary sought an end to the centuries-old practice of the Syrian Christian community, which bequeathed only a minor portion of the family property to women members, under the Travancore Syrian Christian Succession Act, 1916 and Cochin Succession Act 1921.
βThis was a fight that I began 50 years ago. When my father died in 1960, I was staying in a small cottage owned by the family in Ooty (Udhagamandalam) with my two small children. I was asked to vacate the cottage after his death,β said Mary.
At the time of the Supreme Court verdict, Roy also said, βI am relieved that my long struggle for justice has yielded results. My battle was not for a piece of property alone but to ensure that women in this country enjoy the rights guaranteed by the Constitution.β She won the lawsuit which ensured her equal rights to the familial property.

Gs 4: Ethics- leadership : IAS officer Ramesh Gholap, the Deputy Commissioner of Koderma in Jharkhand, was out distributing blankets to the poor when he saw a frail little girl standing in the line. On enquiry, the DC found out that the girl was 11-year-old Sapna whose parents had died recently, leaving her with nowhere to go.
Acting out of instinct, Ramesh drove Sapna to the nearest Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya, registering himself as her guardian. He also asked the officials of social security departments to ensure Sapna gets Rs 2,000 every month, and a tutor takes care of her studies.
Each time the IAS officer meets such children, his memories take him miles away - to Mahagaon in Maharashtra's Solapur district, where he sold bangles along with his mother after his fatherβs death. Gholap couldnβt do much else because of his polio-stricken leg.
"I believe that the situation which I overcame has given me the biggest gift β sensitivity," he says.

Gs4- Ethics - Bio ethics - In general why is it important to stick to rule of law?- it avoids adverse consequences
My opinion :
π΄So whether it is in the context of polity or whether it is in the context of science and tech- rules have a single purpose- to safeguard institutions from long term negative consequences
π΄If we can extrapolate the same thing to the concept of dharma( which basically is about doing one's own duty) and link it to integrity( sticking to the aspect of dharma even when you have a choice of not doing needing to stick to- the society will have less conflicts
πIn short- shortcuts are tempting but can lead to chaos if unchecked
