Gs-4 : Ethics- Direwolf resurrection

🅾️Direwolf- Spending millions on resurrecting extinct species diverts funds from real-time conservation of critically endangered species and ecosystems, which offer immediate returns in biodiversity preservation.

🅾️Revived species may not behave like their extinct ancestors. A "strange-looking gray wolf" is not equivalent to a dire wolf. Misplaced species could disrupt rather than restore ecosystems.Precedents like He Jiankui's gene-edited babies show how gene-editing without ethical guardrails can spiral into unchecked experimentation, commodifying life.

🅾️Conclusion that you can use- de-extinction fails both ethical proportionality and scientific legitimacy. Conservation is a present-day moral imperative, not a futuristic spectacle.

Gs-4 : Ethics- Ethical Concerns: Why GenAI threatens originality in art- we discussed this already in the context of Ghibli art- Click here

🅾️What should we understand?

⚜️1. Art embodies not just style but philosophy and intent- Hayao Miyazaki's Ghibli films are rooted in pacifism, anti-war ethics, and deep environmentalism. Using Ghibli-style AI to portray war glorification is wrong

⚜️2. Creators have the right to protect the spirit of their work=AI-generated Ghibli-style images used in propaganda, satire, or trauma trivialize the ethical soul of the original works.

⚜️3. Informed consent is fundamental to ethical data usage-AI= digital extraction.

⚜️4. Creativity involves intent, context, and self-reflection- Mimicking Ghibli’s aesthetic without Miyazaki’s intent is legally grey, ethically exploitative.

⚜️5. Ethical communication must prevent public deception.

⚜️6. Those who create value must share in the returns.

Gs-4 - Ethics- Environmental ethics

🅾️What is the ethical angle in this article?- ethical imperative of preserving agro-biodiversity and traditional ecological knowledge

🅾️Biohappiness=sustainable diets-so that future generations inherit the genetic, nutritional, and cultural wealth

🅾️Upholds the moral obligation to protect the culinary and ecological wisdom of tribal communities from erasure.Tribal communities have preserved plant-based knowledge (e.g. millets, wild greens, medicinal tubers) through lived experience and oral traditions across generations=it’s a form of civilizational wisdom- Its destruction amounts to an ethical failure in preserving humanity’s collective heritage.

🅾️Neglecting these knowledge systems continues the structural injustice faced by tribal group- To erase tribal food knowledge is not neutral—it’s an ethical breach of duty to diversity, justice, sustainability, and posterity

Gs-4 : Ethics/Essay- Emotional Intelligence

🅾️This is sad yet beautiful- Shared grief shows that empathy can transcend political divisions. A public servant must listen with humanity, especially during communal or ethnic tensions.

🅾️Policy Implication: Design relief, rehab, or communication strategies that appeal to shared human pain, not ethnic identities.

🅾️Attitude chapter link - What is the learning for you?- Society is capable of unity when anchored in emotional truths (loss, mourning).Officers posted in conflict regions must not be cynical, but seek opportunities for micro-reconciliation.

🅾️Chief Minister’s open condolence and student association statements are examples of dignified public leadership. Expressing shared sorrow is moral leadership.

🅾️Dignity of Labour & Duty is recognised

🔰All in all- The incident is a moral reminder that ethnic binaries are constructed. But love, grief, and dignity are universal.

Gs-4 : Ethics- Applied Ethics

Gs-3 : Environment

🅾️Environmental ethics- ICJ ruling on Kyoto protocol - ICJ shows moral courage by upholding long-forgotten responsibilities of the Global North

🅾️Ruling restores faith_ in foundational climate agreements like UNFCCC, Kyoto – keeping promises alive

Gs-2- Health - organ donation- why is there a limited success for organ donation?

Gs-4-Ethics - Are pvt hospitals indulging in profiteering out of philanthropic organ donation? How to build trust and maintain the integrity of the system?-

⚠️Present Issue : Data shows a gender imbalance in organ transplantation. Women contribute a high share of organ donations (63% of all living donor transplants in 2023) but receive far fewer as beneficiaries (e.g., only 37% of kidney transplants, 30% of liver, 26% of pancreas).

🅾️So- National Organ and Tissue Transplant Organization’s (NOTTO) recent advisory to give priority in organ transplants to women patients and relatives of deceased donors awaiting transplants.

🅾️Primary principle must be upheld: no one in greater medical need should be denied an organ based on non-health criteria.

Gs-4 : Ethics- Values

🅾️Alasdair MacIntyre’s critique-modernity’s greatest weakness =its moral incoherence.Modern moral debates look logical, but are often just personal preferences dressed up as arguments.

🅾️Ex :One person says: “Abortion is murder, it’s wrong.”- Another says: “Abortion is a woman’s choice, it’s right.”
Both sound rational, but deep down they come from different moral starting points. There’s no shared ground, so the debate never ends. This is what MacIntyre calls emotivism: moral statements = disguised personal emotions/preferences.

🅾️So- Without shared values, politics becomes about power, not persuasion. When value conflicts don’t resolve, governments/companies turn to experts and numbers.

🅾️Marxism tried to give one grand solution: class struggle + state planning. MacIntyre says this too reduces human moral life to one ideology.Instead of chasing “rights” or “efficiency,” MacIntyre says: build a moral life through virtues

Gs- 4 - Ethics- values -Empathy and Emotional Intelligence as a value

🅾️What do you make out of this? - when human beings fail to offer empathy, even the illusion of empathy feels preferable to the cruelty of indifference.😅

✳️ Dont blame the tech- the problem is the dearth of human warmth and a failure of moral imagination- We reduce life to transactions, judgments, or indifference. And in that vacuum, even a machine’s polite, patient replies feel safer than a human’s coldness.

Gs-1 : Geography- Mercator Map replacement Issue- Africa

GS-1: World History-Post-colonial perspectives- Decolonization

Gs-4 : Ethics: Perception, Bias, Equity

🅾️The Mercator projection, created by cartographer Gerardus Mercator in 1569, was designed to aid navigation but not represent geography accurately. It enlarges landmasses near the poles and shrinks those near the equator.

⚠️As a result: 1. Africa appears 3x smaller than it actually is. 2. Greenland looks the same size as Africa, though it’s 14x smaller. 3. Europe appears proportionally bigger, reinforcing Eurocentric worldviews

🔰These distortions normalize colonial dominance, portraying Africa as "small, conquerable, and insignificant- leads to psychological marginalisation, subtly shaping global perception of importance, power, and centrality.

🅾️Distorted maps = distorted power relations.
