βœ…Gs4- Ethics - Values that a country stands for

πŸ…ΎοΈAn apology is a recognition of human dignity

πŸŽ–What is this Rwandan Crisis?

πŸ›‘The Rwandan genocide of April-July 1994 was the culmination of long-running ethnic tensions between the minority Tutsi community, who had controlled power since colonial rule by Germany and Belgium, and the majority Hutu. Over the course of 100 days, the tragedy took the lives of over 8 lakh people, estimated to amount up to 20% of Rwanda’s population.

πŸ›‘In June 1994, France deployed a much-delayed UN-backed military force in southwest Rwanda called Operation Turquoise– which was able to save some people, but was accused of sheltering some of the genocide’s perpetrators

πŸŽ–
What happened?- The Securities Exchange Board of India (SEBI) has directed PNB Housing Finance (PNBHF) to halt its Rs 4,000-crore deal with Carlyle Group. SEBI has said the allotment of preference shares goes against the lender's articles of association. ( Allegation is that PNB Housing board members who approved a deal with Carlyle group, had undisclosed connections with the Carlyle group)

πŸ›‘SEBI has a document on management of Conflict of Interest for Standard Securities
& Investment Intermediates Ltd. (SSIIL),

πŸ›‘It aims to effectively manage any conflicts of interest that may arise in carrying out its business.

πŸ›‘As a part of citizen's charter- It is important to establish this document on public domain to handle issues like this.

βœ…Gs-2 : IR
βœ…Gs-4 Ethics- International Ethics

πŸŽ–Humiliation as a theme in foreign policy

⚜️The central point- In international relations (IR), some states often deny the legal status of others, stigmatising their practices or even their culture. Such acts of deliberate humiliation at the diplomatic level are common occurrences in modern diplomacy.

⚜️Impact? = National pride is hurt-> Leads to aggressive Nationalism- any historical examples?- Yes- Hitler- and Nazis obsession with German pride.

⚜️The author feels that India does not have such national humiliations and whatever humiliations we had are self inflicted
or different humiliations affected different social groups unequally .

⚜️In present times- China uses its historical humiliations to build national pride. Should India take the same stance?- Author says No as it leads to jingoism. Also difficult due to inequalities.

βœ…Gs-4 : Ethics- Leadership

πŸ”°Importance of political leadership- Personality cult in shaping the role of institutions- Is it a good or bad trend?

πŸ…ΎοΈAns : In today’ democracies, we, citizens, elect individuals to represent us, to talk on our behalf. In this way, political leaders embody the beliefs, wishes, and will of populations, and must act as citizens’ representative

βœ…How can political leaders build institutions?

πŸ…ΎοΈThey do so by being an embodiment of moral values- They should be role models

πŸ…ΎοΈMorals are often subjective in nature- they can have opposition- It leads to ethical dilemmas-

πŸ…ΎοΈThus, ethical dilemma represents the search for the good, which implies to have bad consequences on others, or at least, on a part of the population.

πŸ…ΎοΈIn short , whatever stance one takes, there will be consequences in a multicultural society- Leaders shape the institutions by bringing more people on board to accept that change
