The EU Settlement Scheme was set up to offer EU citizens the chance to live here after Britain left the EU in December 2020. It was officially closed on June 30, 2021.

The Home Office accepts 'late applications' and since that date 160,000 have won settled status here, with 54,000 family members joining them, bringing the total to 214,000.

The number of applications is rising and non-EU citizens are applying as 'partners' of settled EU nationals. More than 50,000 visas have gone to Indians with many said to be 'sham' relationships.

Former world snooker champion Graeme Dott has been found guilty of sexually abusing two children.

The 49-year-old was found guilty following a trial at the High Court in Glasgow on Monday, August 24. The historic charges span between 1993 and 1996 involving a girl, and 2006 to 2010 involving a boy, both of primary school age in the Glasgow region.

Dott had denied the two charges against him, claiming the allegations were fabricated, and testified there was "absolutely no way" the events happened. The trial heard how Dott exposed himself in front of both children, touched them inappropriately, and kissed them.

Sentencing was deferred until September 29 at the High Court in Edinburgh and the 49-year-old was remanded in custody.

A West Midlands based letting agent has been accused of not returning the deposits of more than 100 tenants.

Tony Singh, whose company Morgan, Payne & Knightly has multiple branches in Birmingham, Telford and Wolverhampton, also faces accusations from landlords, who say he did not pass rent on to them.

Unpaid sums have in a handful of cases seen county court judgments made against both the company and Singh - who goes by Tony, but whose full name is Amun Singh Judge. Each has also been reported to Trading Standards.

A house rammed by a car before the fatal A66 crash in Middlesbrough belonged to the father of a teenager who died in the incident.

Cole Worthy, 17, was one of five young men who died when a Volkswagen Passat travelling in the wrong direction hit a Cleveland Police armed response vehicle, also killing two police officers.

Before the crash at 03:39 BST on Saturday, police had received multiple reports of two cars driving dangerously around the town and a Volvo XC60 was seen ramming properties.

After his father's home was rammed, Worthy and the four others set out in the Passat. Police said they were linking the activities of the Volvo XC60 and the Passat.
