📘 10...h5

One of the main crossroads for Black, whether to put the pawn on h5 or h6. The alternative 10...h6 is cautious, while the move in the text is directed to fight against White's pawn offensive on the kingside. Its only drawback is the weakening of the g5-square.

📘 10...Ne8
Black has to main plans in this position:
1. To attack e4, the base of the e4,d5 chain, by f5 to play on the kingside.
2. To attack c4, the base of the c4, d5 chain by a6 and b5 to play on the queenside.
By playing Ne8 black is preparing for b5 by Nc7 and Rb8. He also has his eye on f5!

1...Qa5 Abo Shagalovich activates his queen with tempo (the attack on the a2-pawn), transferring it to the h-file, and along the
way, prevents a similar maneuver (Qa4-h4) by its counterpart. 2.Qb3 Qh5=

1.Ra5! It is important to keep the knight on a central square. Because of that, there is no point in considering 1.Qe2
or 1.g4, both of which run into 1...Bxe5. A preliminary rook exchange serves only to provide additional opportunities
for his opponent:[1.Rxd8?! Rxd8 2.Ra5 Qd6]
