♦️ Ivan Sokolov is a Dutch chess grandmaster. Sokolov won the 1988 Yugoslav Championship and in 1995 and 1998 the Dutch Championship. Before earning the GM title, he became a FIDE Master in 1985 and an International Master in 1986.

♦️Ivan Sokolov was born on the 13th of June 1968 in Bosnia (formerly Yugoslavia). Awarded the GM title in 1987 and Yugoslav Champion in 1988 he was 1st= at Portoroz 1987, 1st= in Belgrade and 1st= in Saltsjöbaden. He also played on the Yugoslav Olympiad team in 1988. He now represents the Netherlands in Olympiads and various other team championships.
♦️Sokolov has said in one of his interviewes:
"I started to play chess in 1974 when I was six years old. I learnt the game from my father who was an amateur chess player. I joined the Chess Club Bosna where I remained a member for almost the next thirty years. As I improved at the game I participated in Junior tournaments, did well and this is more or less how it all began.'
♦️ Sokolov In 1987 and 1993 he won the Vidmar Memorial.
In 2000 he won the 1st European Rapid Chess Championship in Neum edging out on tiebreak Alexey Dreev and Zurab Azmaiparashvili.
♦️ GM Ivan Sokolov is Iran National Chess Team Coach now. He is a strong chess writer and chess games analyser!!

♦️ A memorable game by Sokolov against Kasparov in Wijk aan Zee 1999 which named "Put a Sok in It" in chessgames.com site!!
