Levon Aronian today lost his fifth game at the 2018 FIDE Candidates' Tournament in Berlin. The Armenian GM was beaten by Sergey Karjakin, who is now a point behind the leader, Fabiano Caruana, who he faces tomorrow with the white pieces. Ding Liren spoiled a completely winning position vs Alexander Grischuk and drew his 11th game.

In 1976, Fidelity Chess Challenger 1 was the first commercial chess computer, invented by Sidney Samole (1935-2000), programmed by Ron Nelson, developed for an Altair 8800 with an Intel 8080 CPU. Samole owned Excalibur Electronics in Miami. Voice & Sensory Challenger came next.

He wrote 20 chess books, among them: Chessboard Magic!; The Bright Side of Chess; The Fireside Book of Chess (with Fred Reinfeld); The Most Instructive Games of Chess Ever Played; 1000 Best Short Games of Chess; Practical Chess Endings; Combinations: The Heart of Chess; and Capablanca's Best Chess Endings, the latter highly regarded by Edward Winter.
He passed away in San Francisco, California, USA in 1981.
