▪️Smile

You love to see your child succeed in their tournaments so here is the secret. The key for your kid’s success is your smile! Your smile before and after each game. No matter what is the result, you should always smile! Even when your kid lose the winning game to a lower rated opponent you should still smile. Smile from the bottom of your heart since you really love your child and you love to see her/him happy and relaxed all the time. So you should smile! Your smile will give your kid self confidence and make her/him to play better and enjoy the game.

Overall, chess is just a game. One day your kid loses the winning game and another day wins the losing game. Whatever happens she/he should always see you smile and happy because kids love to see their parents are happy all the time!

You can help your child a lot by that smile. All kids when they enter a competition are going to be under some pressure during the games. Your smile before and after each game will help them to handle that pressure much better. In this case when they play they know separate from any results they are going to see their parents smile after each game!

To show it to your kid that the results aren’t the most important thing, after the game you can ask this question: Did you enjoy the game? By having this question your child will see the most important thing to you from playing chess competitions is to see she/he enjoys the game.

So please don’t forget, the key for your child success is that you always smile!

▪️Quality Game

In my opinion quality game is a game that you play with “full concentration” from the first move to the last move. During the game you don’t think about anything but the board in front of you. You don’t think about the result, what happens if you lose, what did you do yesterday in school, what are you going to do tomorrow, what is your plan for dinner! … You aren’t going to see who is watching your game, who entered to the tournament room, what is happening in the board next to you and … You aren’t going to send any negative messages to yourself. Every single word that comes to your mind during the game should be “positive words”.

After Kasparov became world champion he mentioned that concentration during his games was the key to his success.

Your goal in chess competitions shouldn’t be “winning games”. Your goal should be playing “quality games”. To play quality game you need full concentration during whole game so when you play a game with full concentration even when you lose you can count that game as a “win” for yourself since you played the game with full concentration. If you win a game, but had a bad concentration during the game you should consider that game as a loss since you had a bad concentration.

If you change your goal from “winning a game” to “play a game with full concentration” you will always be relaxed during the game and will never worry about the result since your goal is playing a game with full concentration.

Negativity is a big killer of concentration. It is very easy to lose concentration when negative thoughts come your mind during a game. This is why keeping a positive mindset is so important.

Negativity will block your concentration by making you: think of other thoughts that are not related to the board
become nervous
doubt about your moves
feel too tense
lose confidence
become impatient
be not relaxed
feel sad
feel pressured
have a negative overall experience.

The following are some very good positive messages that can help you to have a positive mindset and to have stronger concentration:
"I am calm, relaxed and concentrated. I am focused on the board and on my next move"
"I am motivated and enthusiastic about this game. I am also relaxed and happy at the same time"
"I can do it! I believe in myself and I know I can do my best in this game"

“Chess demands total concentration.” ~ Bobby Fischer.

Weakening Black's control of the open c-file.
1...Bxa6 2.Qxa6 Rxc1
A sad necessity, but only thus can Black defend the a7-pawn.
3.Rxc1 Qa8 4.Bd6! Rd8 5.e5
After improving his bishop White secures it, and the pawn as well.
