Lev Psakhis (centre) kindly presented me with a lilac coloured book, in Russian, on Rashid Nezhmetdinov - a brilliant but obscure figure whose foreign excursions were limited to Bucharest and Ulaanbaatar. He has subsequently become famous thanks to the streaming generation.

2-time Polish Champion Tartakower was one of the main organizers of the Chess Olympiad in Warsaw in 1935.
France had a lot of strong chess-players. Tartakower, Alekhine, Spasskij and now Firouzja. All however being born outside of France. How did MVL manage to make it ti the top, despite being actually born in France?
