Vilnius, March-April 1984. At the age of 63, Vasily Smyslov (World Champion 1957-58; born 100 years ago today) managed to reach the final of the FIDE_chess Candidates, where he faced Kasparov.

Smyslov played so well into his senior years that it seemed he would play until 100 and beyond. He was world champion six years before I was born and we met in this candidates final a quarter century later! A legend.

In 2002 in the city of Taraz (Kazakhstan) a small tournament of grandmasters (6 participants in total) was held. The event was the speech of Viktor Terrible. And the tournament was won by my friend Leonid Yurtaev. I also managed to get into one photo with great chess players ...
