7th world chess champion Vassily Smyslov was born on this day.
He played a total of 4 WCC, 3 of which were against Botvinnik. He is one of the greatest endgame players of all time, and according to Kramnik, from all world champions Smyslov was the most correct player.

Smyslov played so well into his senior years that it seemed he would play until 100 and beyond. He was world champion six years before I was born and we met in this candidates final a quarter century later! A legend.

"My fascination for studies proved highly beneficial, it assisted the development of my aesthetic understanding of chess and improved my endgame play." - Vasily Smyslov.

Smyslov composed more than 150 studies over a period of 64 years. Will you try to solve one? #YourMove

In 2002 in the city of Taraz (Kazakhstan) a small tournament of grandmasters (6 participants in total) was held. The event was the speech of Viktor Terrible. And the tournament was won by my friend Leonid Yurtaev. I also managed to get into one photo with great chess players ...
