“I have no words to express the grievance over my wife Arianne's death. She was intelligent , hard working and joyous person that lived a beautiful life… I love you honeybun, sleep tight....” Aronian wrote in a Tweet upon learning of his wife's passing.
She was being treated at Yerevan’s Astghik Medical Center but had been rushed to intensive care.
Ariane Caoili and Levon Aronian were wed in 2017.
The car driven by Caoili crashed into a support column of a bridge at the intersection of Sebastia St. and Isakov Avenue.
A chess player herself, Caoili was awarded the title of Woman International Master (WIM) by the FIDE. She won the Oceania Women's Chess Championship in 2009 and competed in seven Women's Chess Olympiads.
