🔸European Team Championship 2017
🔸Round 9
⚪️Nikolaidis,Ioannis (2519)
⚫️Navara,David (2726)
🔸0-1
📘 Czech Super grandmaster David Navara has been the national champion 7-times. Navara also won the European Blitz Championship in 2014. He found the only winning way: 55...N×e3+ 56.Kf2 Qd2+ 57.Kf3 g4+ 58.Kf4 Qf2+ 59.Kg5 Qf5+! 60.Q×f5 N×f5 0-1
🔸European Team Championship 2017
🔸Round 9
⚪️Nyback,Tomi (2572)
⚫️Jobava,Baadur (2705)
🔸1-0
📘 Jobava has completely forgotten the a1- square is attacked. He could have played 39...c4 40.Nc5 Ra1+ 41.Kg2 b3 -+ but instead he played: 39...Ne4 40.f3 Ra1+?? 41.N×a1 1-0
🔸Champions Showdown 2017

⚪️So,Wesley (2788)
⚫️Dominguez Perez,Leinier (2739)
🔸½-½
📘 7.Nd7 With the idea of Bd6-c5-Nb8-Nc6
This idea has also been employed by Caruana against Adams in 2015.
🔸Champions Showdown 2017
🔸Round 3
⚪️Topalov,Veselin (2749)
⚫️Nakamura,Hikaru (2780)
🔸½-½
📘 28. Rfb1

Topalov missed a winning continuation. He should not have given his opponent an opportunity to castle:
(28. Qxg7 Rf8 29. Rad1! With the idea of Rd8+! Bxf5 30. e6! Bxe6 31. Rfe1(idea R×e6!) Qe7 32. Ne5 a5 33. Ng4 f5 34.Qg6+ Rf7 35. Rxe6+-)
🔸Champions Showdown 2017
🔸Round 4
⚪️Dominguez Perez,Leinier (2739)
⚫️So,Wesley (2788)
🔸0-1
📘 34.Qb5? (34.Qd4) a6?
Dominguez's carelessness and Wesley So missing an opportunity
(34...Qg5! 35.Bf1 (Rg1 Re2+ -+) R×e1 36.R×e1 Qd2+ -+)
35.Qc5
⚫️#111 (Strategy-Black to Move)
🔸Miles,Anthony J (2565)
🔸Kortschnoj,Viktor (2665)
🔸Hoogovens Wijk aan Zee 1978
📕 20...Qe8! A typical move in such positions. Black intends to transfer his queen to h5 and continue his attack with ...g7-g5 and perhaps...Rh6.
20...g5 21.Nd4! Bxg2 22.Kxg2=/+ exchang pieces to ease the defence which is a strong idea when you are under attack.
20...Kh8? It is not logical to place your king on the same diagonal as the enemy queen.
⚪️#112 (Strategy-White to Move)
🔸Kortschnoj,Viktor
🔸Arnason,Jon L (2540)
🔸Beersheba, 1987
📕 19.Rc4! A very clever way to transfer the rook to the kingside. Viktor Korchnoi is known as a creative player.
19.b4!? and then a4 were also interesting moves to get more space on the queenside.
19.Ba3? It does not have any particular plan.
⚫️#113 (Strategy-Black to Move)
🔸Serper,Grigory (2575)
🔸Kortschnoj,Viktor (2665)
🔸Groningen 1993
