The first Icelandic GM Fridrik Olafsson turns 85 today!

Six-time national champion and participant of 1959 Candidates Tournament, Olafsson is not only an outstanding player, but he also served as FIDE President from 1978 to 1982.

At the London (Phillips & Drew) event, April 1982 - Viktor Korchnoi protests against the Soviet boycott that led to his exclusion from the event, and also calls for his son to be allowed to join him in the West.
