Sit there for five hours? Certainly not! A player must walk about between moves, it helps his thinking."

Iran, China Win Asia Titles
Iran men’s team and China women’s squad were crowned at the 20th Asian Nations Cup Chess Championship in Hamedan on Friday.
One of three Iranian teams “Iran Green” finished as the champion of the continental event after seven rounds of the games. China’s team stood in second place and Kazakhstan came in third. The other Iranian team “Iran Red” finished fourth. All-time powerhouse India came in a poor fifth.
In the blitz category, Iran men’s team also won the title last week and China finished second.
Seyyed Mohammad-Amin Tabatabaei, Alireza Firouzja, Masoud Mosadeqpour and grandmaster Parham Maghsoodloo played for Iran Green.
Mehrdad Pahlavanzadeh, Head of Iran Chess Federation called the men’s team performance “historical” as the nation has not gained such success over six decades.
“Iran has not been better than now in the last 63 years,” said Pahlavanzadeh. “It was always a dream to bring down powerhouses China and India. Now the dream has come true.”
In the women’s division, the Chinese won the title a day earlier due to the high margin with the second place winner Vietnam. India took bronze while “Iran Green” team, in women’s category, finished fifth after Uzbekistan’s fourth place.
Chinese women also took the top spot in the women blitz games, India came in second and Iranians third. The champions in both men and women categories secured World Championship berth as well. Iran Chess Federation on behalf of the Asian Chess Federation organized the event.
The tourist city of Hamedan, one of the oldest cities in Iran, hosted the games from July 27 to August 4.

🛄 Chess History - Tournaments
🔹 Baden-Baden 1870

🔹 The 1870 chess tournament in Baden-Baden can be regarded as the first strong tournament.
In comparison with London 1851 chess tournament, London 1862 and Paris 1867, three main changes were made:
a) first chess clocks used (20 moves had to be made per hour)
b) draws counted as half points
c) only top international players were invited.

🔹 Ten chess masters participated in the double round-robin tournament.
🔻 Adolf Anderssen,
🔻Wilhelm Steinitz,
🔻Gustav Neumann,
🔻Joseph Henry Blackburne,
🔻Louis Paulsen,
🔻Cecil De Vere,
🔻Samuel Rosenthal,
🔻Szymon Winawer,
🔻Johannes von Minckwitz
🔻Adolf Stern.

🔹The tournament lasted from 18 July until 4 August 1870.
Ignatz von Kolisch held the function of secretary in the organising committee. Prince Mihail Sturdza of Moldavia was president, and Russian writer Ivan Turgenev was vice-president.
The committee of appeal consisted of Hungarian Baron Maythény and Baron von Kolisch.

🔹In that time, France declared war on Prussia on 19 July 1870.
The southern German states, including the Grand Duchy of Baden, took the side of Prussia and its North German allies.
The Franco-Prussian War came close to Baden-Baden.
An international incident nearly occurred. More serious was Stern’s mobilisation, as a Bavarian reservist, after four rounds. Like Johannes Zukertort, he fought in the war.
The finish of Baden-Baden 1870 marked the end of the beginning of hostilities.
The thunder of the artillery could be heard at a distance of 30 km in Baden-Baden.
Adolf Stern sent a card from the fields near Sedan on 4 September: "Emperor Napoleon has been mated".

White has some nasty threats like Rd1, Nxe4 or Bb3. Mamedyarov does not allow his opponent to develop his plan.
