Kramnik utilizes his pawns to ensure that the black pawns remain fixed on a7 and b6. If Black now plays passively, White can take command of the c-file with 29 Rc1, with ideas of 30 Nd6 or 30 Nc7 etc.

USSR-ch, Moscow, Dec 1952. It looks like this is his fateful final-round encounter v. Geller; he lost this game, allowing Botvinnik to catch him in the lead, by defeating Suetin.

🔸 Isaac Kashdan
🔸 American Chess Grandmaster and Writer

♦️ Isaac Kashdan was an American chess grandmaster and chess writer. He was twice U.S. Open champion. He played five times for the United States in chess Olympiads, winning a total of nine medals, and his Olympiad record is the all-time best among American players.

▪️ Born: November 19, 1905, New York City, NY
▪️ Died: February 20, 1985, Los Angeles, CA
▪️ Nationality: American

♦️ Kashdan was often called 'der Kleine Capablanca' (German for "The little Capablanca") in Europe because of his ability to extract victories from seemingly even positions. Alexander Alekhine named him one of the most likely players to succeed him as World Champion.
♦️ Kashdan was awarded the Grandmaster title in 1954, and the International Arbiter title in 1960. Kashdan captained the American Olympiad team for Leipzig 1960 to a silver medal finish.

♦️ A memorable game by Kashden against Max Euwe, former chess world champion👇🏼
