The oldest photograph of chessplayers may be from William Henry Fox Talbot (1800-1877). He took at least 10 pictures of chessplayers. These photos are of photographer Antoine Claudet (1797-1867) and Talbot's assistant, Nicolaas Henneman (1813-1898), taken between 1840 and 1847.

The Fischer Random chess match between Magnus Carlsen and Hikaru Nakamura took place in Baerum, Norway 9th to 13th February 2018. This is a variant of chess where one of 960 starting positions is used rather than the standard one. Castling Kingside and Queenside is always possible but can lead to some very large leaps by the king. Four pairs of rapid games from the same starting position were played for four days, then on the final day there were four pairs of blitz games.
Magnus Carlsen won the match 14-10 with a 9-7 win in the rapid (double points over the blitz) and 5-3 win in the blitz.
However, Magnus Carlsen is the new unofficial Fischer Random world champion after beating Hikaru Nakamura 14-10 yesterday in their match in Norway.

She competed in the FIDE Knock-Out Women's World Championship (2012) and defeated Indian WGM Soumya Swaminathan, Armenian GM Elina Danielian, Georgian IM and WGM Lela Javakhishvili, and Chinese GM Zhao Xue to reach the semi finals. There she met and lost to former Women's World Champion, Bulgarian GM Antoaneta Stefanova to bow out of the contest.
