Testing the World Championship Challenger's Opening Prep with the Vienna Game
The New Year started pretty poorly. But after winning this position down a queen and scoring 4 wins in a row to get 2nd place. Iβve become more optimistic about 2022 :)

Aleksandr Beliavsky (b. Lvov, 1953), pictured in 1975, the year he gained his GM title. He had already won the Soviet championship (shared with Mikhail Tal, in 1974), and would go on to win or share the title again in 1980/81, 1987 & 1990.

Must be the 1978 Soviet Championship in Tbilisi, when I was 15. That's Beliavsky standing up when I look at his board. Old school, wearing a tie!
