This photograph rests in the national archives of Mexico, with none of the individuals identified. The one in the middle is Carlos Torre, one of the finest chess players of the 1920s. This entertaining article discusses his involvement in a stunning game: https://bit.ly/3iTHwBu

It is hardly useful if you trustingly play through variation after variation from a book. It is a great deal more useful and more interesting if you take part actively in the analysis, find something yourself, and try to refute some of the author's conclusions.

Going through my archives, I found this clip from the 2011 Amber Tournament with Ljubomir Ljubojevic showing Viktor Korchnoi why Bobby Fischer thought Black is better, a tempo, down, in a symmetrical position. Also with Veselin Topalov "refuting" 1.b4.
