An exhibition of 'living chess' in front of ~8,000 spectators in Palace Square, St Petersburg, 24th July 1924. The 'pieces' were men from the Red Fleet (White) & the Red Army (Black), respectively conducted by local masters Pyotr Romanovsky & Ilya Rabinovich.

#OnThisDay in 2013, Magnus Carlsen won one of the most dramatic Candidates Tournaments in history. He would clinch his first world title vs Viswanathan Anand in Chennai later that year. Here's Carlsen interviewed by Peter Doggers after his win in London:
