RIP Lubosh Kavalek. Photo from the great Wijk aan Zee #TataSteelChess 1975 tournamentbook that he wrote. There he drew tournamentwinner Portisch with a fantastic queen sac which earned him the (Leo vd Kuijk) prize for the most spectacular game. 'I got the prize, he got my queen'

Another coincidence, several posted about yesterday's 22nd anniversary of my famous game vs Topalov in Wijk aan Zee in 1999. It was Kavalek who first discovered a beautiful improvement on the game in his column. (28.Ra7!) Back before computers could see everything in 10 seconds!

Here's a sight you don't get to see often during a chess tournament. Alireza Firouzja and Jorden van Foreest are moving to another table. It's a very windy day in the Netherlands and their board was closest to the noise.
