#OnThisDay history: It was a sad Thursday on January 17, 2008 when the 11th World Chess Champion Robert James Fischer succumbed to lingering degenerative kidney failure and died at Landspรญtali Hospital- National University Hospital of Iceland in Rekyjavik.
Amsterdam 1954, World Olympics. The Soviet team is playing with Holland. Chess competitions in those years were like a theatrical performance. The spectators were also active participants in the process!
