🎂 Today is the birthday of Irina Krush, the only female American to hold the title of Grandmaster.

At age 14, Irina won the 1998 US Women's Chess Championship - the youngest ever in history, and a record that still stands. She has won this title on seven other occasions.
John Donaldson's new book on Bobby Fischer says that Fischer's name first appeared in print in Helms' "Brooklyn Daily Eagle" column of January 18, 1951 (when he was 7, not 8). I have looked up that column.

And we have a winner!!! 🏆 Bulgarian 🇧🇬 GM Ivan Cheparinov wins 7th #SunwaySitges International Chess Festival! We rushed to congratulate him, but could only be second as his wife GM Antoaneta Stefanova - former Women's World Champion - had already done 😄. Congratulations again!
