Petrosian vs Keres First Piatigorsy Cup 1963 both of the games they played ended in a draw, maybe they already decided to play for a draw from the first move as the games ended in no more than 30 moves.
Keres and Petrosian shared first place 8.5/14 with Najdorf 7.5/14 in third.

βœ… Chess History - Tournaments
β–ͺ️ Los Angeles 1963

β–ͺ️In 1963 famous cellist Gregor Piatigorsky and his wife Jaqueline gave a cup through the Piatigorsky Foundation for a chess tournament that would include two grandmasters from the USSR and two grandmasters from the USA.
Four grandmasters from other countries filled out the playing list.

β–ͺ️ The final player line-up consisted of:
πŸ”» Tigran Vartanovich Petrosian
πŸ”» Paul Keres
πŸ”» Samuel Reshevsky
πŸ”» Pal Benko
πŸ”» Fridrik Olafsson
πŸ”» Svetozar Gligoric
πŸ”» Oscar Panno
πŸ”» Miguel Najdorf

β–ͺ️ The tournament ran from the 2nd of July to the 30th of July 1963 in Los Angeles, USA. The players met in a double round all-play-all and the joint winners Petrosian and Keres returned to the Soviet Union with more than half of the $10,000 prize fund offered by the Piatigorsky Foundation. This tournament was the strongest to be held in the USA after New York 1927.

πŸ’’ The main source for this collection was the First Piatigorsky Cup tournament book edited by Isaac Kashdan.
πŸ’’ The Second Piatigorsky Cup (1966) was the next tournament that contested this trophy.

♦️ A memorable game from Los Angeles 1963
πŸ”Έ Paul Keres vs Pal Benko, Round 9

@unitychess
"A player can sometimes afford the luxury of an inaccurate move, or even a definite error, in the opening or middlegame without necessarily obtaining a lost position. In the endgame ... an error can be decisive, and we are rarely presented with a second chance."

πŸ”Έ Paul Keres
