An interesting move from the Finnish FM. Now if black plays 10...a4 white can move the knight to c2 after Na1 to protect d4 and to prepare b4. White can also consider occupying d5 outpost by Ne3-d5 maneuver in some cases.

The idea of this old move is Nb6 and Nc6 to attack d4. It was initially played by WCH Vasily Smyslov in 1947. Later Smyslov tried this line twice with white and twice with black against Botvinnik in world chamionship matches and won both of the games inwhich he fought against his own line with white!

By a rook lift white strengthens his decisive attack. Now the threat of N.h6 can not be parried.

Black king feels more secure on the closed queenside. Black is also going to fight for the h file by playing 15...Rh8.
