πŸ”°Viswanathan "Vishy" Anand is an Indian chess grandmaster, a former World Chess Champion, and the current World Rapid Chess Champion. Anand became India's first grandmaster in 1988. He held the FIDE World Chess Championship from 2000 to 2002, thus becoming the first Asian to do so.

πŸ”˜Full name: Anand Vishwanathan
πŸ”˜Country: India
πŸ”˜Born: 11 December 1969 (age 48)
Mayiladuthurai, Tamil Nadu
πŸ”˜Title: Grandmaster (1988)
πŸ”˜World Champion: 2000–2002 (FIDE) & 2007–2013

πŸ”° Vishwanathan Anand was the 15th undisputed World Champion, reigning from 2007 until 2013. He was also FIDE World Champion from 2000-2002. Anand was born in 1969 in Mayiladuthurai, a small town in southern Indian state of Tamil Nadu, but grew up in Chennai. His mother taught him to play chess, aged six.

πŸ”° As an Indian and an Asian chess player, he blazed a trail with a number of firsts, including in 1984 becoming the youngest Indian to earn the title of IM (aged 14), becoming the youngest ever Indian Champion at 16, becoming in 1987 the first Indian to win the World Junior Championship and India’s first grandmaster, and becoming India’s (and Asia’s) first World Champion. He was also the first World Champion since Robert James Fischer and the second since Max Euwe who did not originate from Russia or eastern Europe. Moreover, he was the first and only player to have won the putative world championship via knockout tournament, round robin tournament and traditional match play.
πŸ”° Anand played board 4 for India in 1984, and top board in 1986, 1988, 1990, 1992, 2004, 2006 and 2018 (Batumi), winning a silver medal on top board in 2004.
